Artist Statement

Art like life is about growth and discovery. To experiment and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Some pieces will turn out better than expected, some worse. They need to be put aside for a while and then looked at with fresh eyes. Then you will see that perhaps just one small change will satisfy your vision. I work in clay, oils and occasionally video.

I like to paint figuratively and sometimes the painting will drift naturally along into abstraction. I enjoy trips to Italy and have visited many Etruscan sites. Early in their brief culture they were joyful and peaceful and the women were liberated. I like to work with some of their images and see where it takes me. Forming a bridge between then and now. I also like poetry for inspiration.

Working in clay I lean towards abstraction, tearing into sheets of clay and building a tower like form. I tend to work quickly and therefore my pieces will collapse and I am rejoicing in letting the piece find its own form. As in life letting it go where it takes me. Sometimes with surprising results.
